The small size and very long tail of the retic would raise some alarms with me, even with a Florida gar. Definitely has a chance to work, but you'd have to keep your eye out for bite marks.
okay so to answer my own question, gars and rays seem okay together at least so far. just picked up a 17" gator gar and he has left my motoro males alone. the rays are a little scared of the gar, which I would be too, but I think in time they will learn that they are not going to be eaten as the gar pays them no attention.
I'm going to second what red dwarf says. Gator gars can do quite a bit of damage if they decide to nip a tankmate. And are unpredictable with their aggression.
Gars normally hang out at the top while rays like the bottom. You shouldn't have any conflicts between them. Then again, nothing is impossible. So gdluck and hope for the best that your gar isn't a jerk.
I think u should be fine man. My gator gar hasn't messed with any of his tank mates yet and there are about 3 catfish less than 1/2 his length in there with him.I doubt that it will try and eat something that wide but who knows
