is it realy important???? becasue the amonia isnt toxic it shouldnt matter that much and i dout a 40 % water change can jump the ph to over 7 for 5.5 6???
The ammonia is only less toxic. And nitrite is more toxic at low Ph. At some point nitrite will build up too. So I guess the question is do you think your rays will do OK with toxic water and no biological filter?
I have a female retic that is 14 inches and is 3.5 years old and I have a male Hystrix that is 15 inches these are disk sizes so yest they still get rather large. My male retics are quite a bit smaller than the female. Both Males are fully mature and 2.5-3.5 years of age my largest male the older of the 2 retics is maybe 10 inch disk size. I do have pups for sale in the market place. Yes captive bred retic pups! I have already sold 3 to fellow MFK members and they say the pups are awesome and they couldn't believe the difference in my CB rays vs. WC rays. I currently have 2 males and 2 females for sale for $80 a piece plus Ap to AP shipping charges. The pups are right around 2.5 to 3 inch disk size right now and are eating black worms and starting on small bits of night crawlers. They began eating at 4 days of age and haven't stopped they were born May 18th 2011. If interested shoot me a PM. I am guessing the males will probably reach 10-11 disk size at full maturity in roughly 3 years. I kept 3 retic rays in a 125 for 2 years before I upgraded to my 500. I must be doing something right because they have now given me 4 healthy litters with a total of 10 pups all still healthy and happy rays.
