Sometime in the next week I am moving up to a new place where I am going to school. I want to bring my red devil Carl but I have some reservations about moving his tank. The house I am moving into is a very very old fraternity house. I don't fully trust the wiring in the house and am a little worried I am going to be blowing fuses with the 2 filters and 2 heaters along with the light an a power head. So, my question is I was thinking I would put Carl in my 25 gallon (running 2 HOB's on it) and then move the 75 up to my new place, get it up and running and make sure wiring can support a tank, and bringing him up the following day. Can I keep him in a 25 overnight without having to worry about ammonia spikes and things or that nature? The 25 is currently stocked with a 4 in. common pleco and 3 small juvi convicts and carl is around 10 or 11 inches. The tank is 12 inches wide so he should have just enough room to turn around.

if it just for a few hours you can do it...just make sure the filters are running, and there's plenty of oxygen

If I Have the 2 HOB filters running and I lover the water level a few inches for more agitation will that be enough oxygen for him?

yeah as long as the filter is cured it will be fine, though his bioload is a big leap from what the filter is used to so if you could i would also do a dose of CYCLE to help with the sudden bioload increase, other than that he should be fine in the tank for just a night though he may chomp on your convicts a bit... and if its a frat house then the electric should be fine, usually frat and sorority houses have to meet certain inspection criteria each year to avoid big fines so i would think the house would def be able to handle the tank though i guess its always better to play it safe when it comes to electricity and water LOL, my main concern would be putting some kind of lock on the tank so some drunk guys doesnt get the bright idea to give your fish some beer (this has almost happened to me and i dont even live in campus housing LOL)

I was already planning on adding a does of cycle for that exact reason. As for my drunk frat brothers pooring beer in the tank, its going to be set up in my room in the basement which locks so I am planning on keeping people out of there when we are having partys. Everyone in the house is very respectful of things like that. Its the randoms we get in there on the weekends im going to have to keep an eye one haha.

ive kept my midas 10'' in a 20g for 2 years and it blossomed into one hellovabeast! so yeah, a day wouldnt do any damage.

I have had a red devil sit in a bag overnight with oxygen. So a 25 gallon with filters and is being oxygenated, you will be fine.

if youre not kidding, hes a beast because hes in a tank way too small and pissed off at his owner for it. Great skills and even cooler to brag about it:screwy:

and Id be curious to see what size your main tank is in "your tank setup" that sounds over stocked. Let me guess...a 55?75?

I wouldn't bother with cycle, pretty much a waste of your money in this situation IMO
