Can I put gouramis with my polypterus ?

I can´t believe that topic is meant serious. I mean he writes the gouramis attack his bichir and shred his gills...and then asks if that harms him.

many gourami are pretty mellow, especially so to bottom dwellers, it's mostly interspecies aggression. How is it his fault that something he didn't see coming is happening.

sorry...but lol

But to stay on topic. I put a rat into my varanus panoptes horni enclosure. The varanaus did bite the rat. He broke her back and ripped her legs off. Is that hurting the rat? o.O

well once the gills become internal it shouldn't be much of an issue. bichirs are practically armor plated by animal standards, but I agree the bichir should not be kept with anything picking at the gills

Is that topic here meant as joke?

Actually, I wondered that myself... I think he was asking if they would nip its gills, not saying that they already had been doing that.

Kept a Delhezi with external gills with gouramis and had no problems. 3 full size blue gouramis and 3 gold gouramis. Your everyday common gouramis will be just fine with a polypterus even babys with gills. Never had a single gourami worried about anything on the bottom. I sure there are some more rare exotic species of gouramis that are more agressive.
