Can inverts that live under the sand, and die cause problems?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo

Ok I'm looken up some of these skimmers now....also when I did a water change for the first time with a pump.....i was disappointed. I filled a trash can with saltwater (about 25 gallons of water)...i used the this pump thats rated 80gph.....the water didn't make it pass the entire hose....

I probably need to get a 360gph...or more
A pumps flow rate is different for each length of head. The number you see big and bold is normally wide open with zero head.

So, a Danner Mag 5 might put out 520 gph at zero head, but put out 310 at 4 feet, and shut off at 8. (and those are random numbers, the real stuff is easily available)

Lmfao, as we speak I'm about to do a massive water change, take out all the rocks (place them in tank water) and clean all the sand...with a vac. Also I'm gonna clean out my filter again.....so the carbon and the clear max get rinsed....biomedia just gets untouched...right?

Also that would be great for the shipment of the plants....how much would that be? Also you should have them in Jan?

First off, I will be in LA most likely for almost all of January, so I wont be at my tank to trim and sell. Secondly, we are doing some major tank stuff here in the next week, and things will be pretty disrupted, so my macros need a chance to get settled in and grow some before I trim again.

Carbon, if you are going to rinse, should be rinsed in SW...that gets colonized by bacteria, and so when you rinse it you will have millions of dead bacteria in your filter. No bueno.

I would sell you a urine sample cup packed full of caulerpa for $10, shipped.

Any "bio-media" used with SW systems, are considered nitrate factories. SW filtration consists of live rock, a good protein skimmer & powerheads for flow.

Not sure if we are going to agree here...people put LR in their sumps...its essentially the same thing.

The reason why canisters are nitrate factories isnt because of the bio-media, its because they trap, and concentrate large amounts of waste which in turn decompose in the filter.

I have run canisters, without doing anything special media wise...LR is just a waste of precious space. The cintered glass balls eheim gives with their filters I think would be bomb.

Like heathd says, you probably dont have enough head on this specific pump.

yeah btw...i thought you were gonna send a sample of urine...until i read it lol.....ok so jan they should be ready...

Ha no just wanted to give you an idea of the quantity, I ship in those because they are small, and watertight.

Thats seems pretty cool....and you should have them in stock in January right? If so my b-day is in that month and maybe if my tank is settled I may purchase a fish/ inverts....from you if you mind.

Fish you can probably do cheaper from someone else....I have to charge $60 in shipping usually...so the fish would have to be pretty small to fit into one of those containers. Although I do get and buy SW fish wholesale...I still have to hold them and keep them till I think that they are ready to go, so you would probably get it for a little cheaper than most online stores or LFS's. Lastly remember that I am only doing this as a hobbyist, I dont have an actual store, a lot of people just buy stuff from me because I can get it for them cheaper, especially if they come see me in person.

But yes, we can get you macros come spring. :D

lmfao....I guess I would leave orders of fish and frags more to you and plants at the lfs cause of shipping....lol thanks btw i read through the thread I noticed I asked twice "Ready in Jan"....lol sorry for my stupidity!...
