All of the equipment on the Pacu's tank is located in the sump. Before that they figured that if it wasn't food it was a "chew toy". Airlines, overflow tubes, plastic plants etc.

They will eat algae wafers , peas. string beans, as well as wtat has been previously mentioned. Grapes should only be an occasional treat (sugar content) they shouldn't have very much, or very often.

I only have 15, all rescues & they will always tell me that they are hungry. They get fed once a day, feeding more often can lead to additional water problems.
love to see some pics of them...wow 15 pacus.....

Unfortunately I don't have Pics. Their window ( so they can see out ) is 8' long & 13" high. Tank is 13' long, 7' wide & 50" deep plus "splash & jump space" above water line. Leaves very little space to get around to take pics. At meal time the window is filled with smiling faces & much wiggiling :)

Thank you, Some came from 55 gallon tanks. One spent 5 yrs in a 55, had a smashed upper jaw & skull was 24" long. Now he is almost 36" long & is doing fine. A lot of mistreatment of them due to neglect & having no idea how big they get and how fast they grow.

i know ...and they are such a personable happy fish... full of mischief and life and i wish they would stop selling them in LFS stores.. i see those babys there and it just isn't right.. but i am glad for all the pacu lovers out there.. who realize what a value it is to be a proud owner of a pacu and be able to give their pacu a forever home in the home aquaria.. they are #1 fish to me.. but it takes someone who owned them to know just how special they are..

my local store sells them for buy 3 get one free??? i had my tank built for the pacu's and its still not big enough. who in their right mind could sleep at night knowing he's selling baby pacu's for peanuts. funny thing is he's always taking mid size ones back.

15 PACUS IS AMAZING. dunno if any of you have been to blackpool tower england??? there is a pacu display. biggest pacu's ive ever seen. the width of them, jesus christ its scary.

there should be a pacu keepers site.

Pacus are very skittish fish by nature. Have not seen onew break the glass, but they are strong enough to weaken the seams on the newer tanks. Have seen 18" pacu in 55 gallon tank almost tip the tank on its side. Fortunately there were two people there & they had to hold the tank till the pacu settled down. It was purchased at 3" & within a year was 18".

People should do the research prior to purchasing these cute little fish, many that are available now can grow into true "Tank Busters".

or at least the guy in the shop should give them a heads up on whats gonna happen. my pacu's have calmed down 100% since my oscar died. funny thing now is i did a wee tanks reshuffle and put my big cat fish in the big tank and he's taken great offence to the pacu's. which is craziness as he was in with small fish. dont know what his problem is.

i keep pacu's. i love them. i have 3. one is 22 inch the other two are around about 15 inch, they are in a 220gal tank. which is begining to look small. not too worry cause the mrs has said yes to a monster tank when we get a house.

ANYWAY!!!

i made a post about an oscar problem and someone posted "pacu's will break your glass". to which i replied the glass is 12mm thick dont be silly. i know "amy" is big and ive heard a lot of bumping in the night but never considered for a second that they could brake the glass. heaters powerheads and filters YES but the actual tank???????

anybody know anyone who's pacu have cracked the glass or anything useful dont be shy.

thanks for your time

Here's a pacu tank buster story:

What are you feeding your Pacu? Mine are on Hikari Cichlid Staple floating pellets, Bananas, grapes, carrots and mice (when they feel like it). I don't argue with them, they busted my 150 right in front of me, all over the floor couple years ago. I had a banana in my hand standing across from them in the kitchen and wasn't paying attention. They got it alright. About 100 gallons of that tank was on my floor in a split second. They both just rammed it in the corner at the same time. You can keep the bigger one's I'm trying to not force mine any bigger to fast. I bought them that 220 they are in and that better last them awhile.

so the pacu spashed the water on the floor???? what kinda hood was it? my tank had hood is custom built. there is no chance of anymore than a few drops out one end coming out and that cause i wanted to add another powerhead which wasnt in the build plan. i dot know how strong the silicon holding the tank together is but i now dont believe my tank is under any danger, unless on of the kids takes a club to it.
