Mine have a high amount of veggies, but there are 15 of them. It's a chain reaction, when 1 starts the others follow.

Play time is like a litter of half grown puppies :)
i can only imagine....................

okay, now that I've received some insight on the glass, would a red-bellied pacu do okay in a 300g with a school of SD's if they are the only other fish in the tank? It's a 300g wide by the way (96"L, 30"W, 25"H)

with the 15 do they not fight??? i had two in a smaller tank and they caused some damage to each other.

i will not believe my tank is under any danger. 12mm is around half an inch. i bet your bank doesnt have 12mm glass.

my pacu has a bumped nose which i can only imagine is from ramming the glass. she really needs a tank twice the size or more.

thank you. everybody for your help and stories.

my pacu seem very chilled being on there own without much competition for food. im still feeding protein in afraid.

Juveniles tend to fight (spar) more than the oldr ones.

Mine will push & shove each other to see who is is charge.

They also take turns, one pacu has 1/2 of he tank & chases all the others so they stay at the other end. After about 15 minutes, they will change, so another one has the "better" end & the game goes on.

The larger the tank the less aggression they show to each other.

i think you will be just fine with one...but this is just my opinion

yes they can and they have shattered many tanks.Problem is they spook so damn easy.
at least the red bellies do. Try to get a black or green if possible and if you find any of either tell me since I haven't seen any available in a long time lol

many of your own tanks??? or people you know??? i just cant see it now. i had a slight slight doubt before but now absolutely zero.

now mine glide through the tank gently, sometimes bumping but no bitting and definately no flesh being removed

you should have absolutely zero doubt if your tank is made with 1/2" thick glass.

its a physical impossiblity for a fish (made of flesh, not rock) moving in water that provides resistance to break through glass that thick, no matter what the urban legends say...

as Liz verified with her sludge hammer experience, it cannot happen with the fish's body/nose impact alone.

sorry I forgot to check back on here. I haven't personally had this happen but a friends has who owns a lfs and he was telling me it has happened to 2 of his customers. He has a 750 gallon tank in his store with 3 of them and he always of course has people begging to take their pacu but he wont because of this.In fact-the red he had was the one who broke his at his house. His whole garage was a tank at one time but no more.I wish I had enough room for a bunch for life.I believe the stories anyway but who knows?
