Can someone tell me why people like Cichlid because I have no idea what kind of freshwater fish I will put in a 50 or 75 gallon aquarium I'm thinking of Cichlid but i have no idea why people love them Cichlid are freshwater right??

theres many reasons why people love fish but cichlids can be aggressive. but i would say cichlids have most of the beautiful colors! aspecially to be freshwater. cichlids can be pretty easy to maintain though! your 50g or 75g would make a great home for some cichlids. there are some really big cichlid lovers on here but i do happen to own a Mayan and a black convict. great fish, but im sure someone else will be able to tell you much more than i can
yeh you can mix it up but i think you might have a few here or there that might be to aggressive if you can find the fish young enough then it will be fine but you need to do your homework or ask someone with more experience in cichlids about the size the fish will get and make sure you can keep them in your tank but if you have 75G then you would be ok for a while! whats the measurments on your tank?
sorry the reason i ask about the tank size is the growth of the fish but also you can really cut down on aggression if they have enough territory of there own in the tank!

Cichlids are a pretty popular group of fish. My favorite is the Oscar. Owning an Oscar is like owning an underwater dog..... They are intelligent, personalable, and even trainable.... But, they are aggressive. If you start out with very young fish, you should be fine... I've had and Oscar for about 5 years. He's about 13" now. They grow pretty fast, but like I said if you start them out with other fish, such as Jack Dempsey's and convicts you should be ok. Remember to get them all around the same size so they can grow together... And always do your water changes... No mattter what.. Broken arm... water changes. Headache.... water changes. Cant breathe.... water changes.. at least once a week. 15 to 20% or sometimes more

Before you buy your freshwater fish, cichlid or not, make sure you research what you are getting! If you research you will learn what conditions are required, what to feed, how big of a tank you'll need, and compatiable tankmates for the fish you want.
