I think hybrid, that you may be taking the wrong message from what was posted. GE II in itself is not inherently bad. I posted an excerpt from a study done that showed that BIO-Seal may infact be nothing other than the chemical compound curing agents used. If thats the case then even BIO-Seal would be safe according to the study. GE II which is not labelled as BIO Safe or (insert name of anti mold fungal etc here) has been shown to work just fine in our hobby. The main point of the discussion is that the labelled version cannot be proven as safe or unsafe thus "choosing" to use GE I or GE II without the label is a no brainer. Not all GE II products (or other branded products using the same curing method as GE II) are labelled in the "toxic" manner discussed.

Arguments in favor of using a product with the label of BIO whatever or something similar are pointless when products without the label are just as readily available.

Agreed

If when i was looking for a black silicone, I could of found one that had no mention of a bio-seal/anti fungal/anti mildew/etc. i would have picked up a case and been done with it.

But in my area that is not the case. Thats why I did all the research and made the poll and such. To find out info.

So moral of the story as i take it is

If you can get silicone in your color of choice that has no mention of mold or mildew anti anything. Then get it and be done.

If you can not then geII with bio-seal is just fine as well. Or I should say has worked for me with no problems for years now.

Or if you are a person that needs reassurance then order online and wait till the stuff YOU trust arrives. And be happy

after all that tooth and nail fighting to get the truth about BIO seal out in the open.

Now the thread looks as if it talks about nothing but untruthful and bad things about geII silicone.

:lipsseale:WTF:

Just to humor you, I went through all of the removed posts and did not find any "truth" listed. You have made your point about using silicone with bio-seal and not suffering any ill effects. That point is well understood. This thread remains the same as it was, I just cleaned up the bickering. If there was information that you deemed valuable to the topic, please feel free to repost the information without complaining, arguing or provoking a response. The goal is for this to be an informational discussion. Please PM me if you wish to discuss this further.

From what I am to understand, the difference between the GE Silicone I & II is the method by which it cures the silicone. GE1 utilizes an acidic ingredient that evaporates when exposed to air, causing the silicone to harden. GE2 uses an ammonia base that evaporates when exposed to air, causing the silicone to harden.

As far as the bio-seal is concerned. It can be found in both the GE1 & GE2 silicone brands. You can also find both GE1 & GE2 without this. *subject to availability.

The one thing that has yet to be determined is what makes up the bio-seal. From what I can find, it is a proprietary substance that is "included" in the silicone with the bio-seal logo. Reading the MSDS has yet to provide any conclusion as to the makeup of the bio-seal, but then again, I am not an chemist, so it is a bit above my head.
