Can this tank hold my body weight??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So...............I have a tripod type glass hole drill and I live in AZ. If you buy the drill bit and the glass is not tempered I would be happy to bring the drill over. You can get a really nice filtering system in there! I just set up a 125 for my Goonch cat. I put 4 holes in and it was easy!

Check out Glass-holes.com for an overflow, they also sell the glass hole drill bits.

Edit: LOL I just looked up where you live! Wife and I are going to Bisbee for some R&R this Friday/Saturday so the offer is still open :)

Nice!...great offer Egon, and good call on the Glass-Holes.com website...not only do they have holesaws, they have everything you need to get your overflow system working, bulkheads, street ells, everything...and they are the "good guys" too...

And it DOES snow in Az...just not the lowlands...I had a property in
Prescott Valley Az. and believe me it snows!!

What? No pictures of your butt in the air? :grinno:

To get the water deposits off, use a spray bottle filled with vinegar and a sponge with a green scrubby on it. Spray it all down and let it sit for a while, and then spray it again and scrub it. It'll make it super easy.

And I agree that this is the best time to drill it.

Careful on the green scrubber/3M pad...I scratched my glass 150 enough to see it, so bad that I had to turn it around and use the other side for the front viewing panel...I was just scrubbing old dried algae with soap and water...

Thanks for the warning on the 3M pads. I'd hate to get all the hard water stains off and find that I've ruined the look of the tank. I have no clue how scratched the top might already be.

Chompers: I love vinegar, I keep huge bottles of it in my garage. I use it as a safe cleaner for my bird cages and their bowls. Every couple months I put my glass tank tops in the bathtub with some hot water and vinegar and give them a good soak and a wipe down. The water here in S. Arizona is hard hard hard and full of all kinds of minerals and heavy metals.

Egon, I'm totally stoked about your offer. I'm still at a crossroads with regards to whether I want to drill or not. I've never even seen a drilled tank. I've done alot of reading on what drilling can do for you but I'm not quite sure I know how to "fix" problems that may come along.

Based on the research you've done. what might you encounter that you wouldn't be able to "fix"?

Basically, using a sump is a two part system. Which both parts rely on one another.
You have "The Filter" that includes the pump to move the filtered water
and
"The Drains" that utilizes gravity to drain the dirty water to the filter to be cleaned...

When you break it down like that it becomes simple. There are of course certain specs. that govern the two, but they are simple as well...

You have a large tank, and to filter them with HOB's and Canisters could run into a thousand dollars.
A sump however, can be put into operation for alot less money and you'll have more options with heating, UV, AS, and the like...
just something to think about...;)

Well let me know, I'll be in the area and I'm happy to help a fellow MFKer out. I'm good at plumbing too. Any questions you have I'll be happy to answer.

You have a small window for this opportunity. If I were you, I would order an overflow and glass hole cutter from glass holes and hopefully it will be in by Saturday, it should. Get some beer and send me your address. Start looking for a used 55 gallon tank or something similar that will fit under your tank for a sump. Check out CL and even check out the phoenix area. I may be able to help you out and pick up something in the Phoenix area and take it to you.........for more beer of course ;) Maybe you already have a sump? so this is not necessary.
Anyway you make a good decision now and spend a little cash up front you'll be a happy fish keeper forever!
