Can this tank hold my body weight??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The problems I'm afraid I may not be able to fix are power outage overflow and incorrect flow rates. Most of my hesitation is not having anyone to make sure I'm doing it right. But with Egon to help me I feel a whole lot better... MFK rules.

Have to hit up Wally-World for some cheap polorized sunglasses so that I can figure out if this 250 is tempered or not. The guy said its "safety glass" but he got it used, so I can assume nothing.

Egon, I went ahead and ordered the 1500 gph overflow kit just in case. If this tank turns out to not be tempered then we're on for this weekend.

What kind of beer do you want?? :naughty:

get a sump big enough for overflow during power outtage and you're golden.

Let's see if my mind is working right here. I can calculate how many gallons it would take to drain the tank below the overflow lip. Add that to the amount that would normally fill the sump. As long as it doesn't exceed the max volume of the sump then I'm golden?

This sounds really easy, I don't trust it.

Do you have a sump? Pump? We should be able to get water flowing Saturday.

Is the tank clean? After we drill the holes I'm can help you put the tank on the stand and run the plumbing and at least test it. Now is a good time to clean that thing while it's still on the floor.

I'm luckily working on night shift right now... so plenty of time for cleaning when I get up in the morning. I've been slowly working on it, so I should have it finished tomorrow. Gotta throw some elbow grease in the mix.

Exchanged emails with Glass-Holes this am, they finished making the 1500 ghp overflow today and sent it out. He went ahead and sent it priority for me. I'm crossing my fingers that it'll be here on time.

Haven't located a suitable sump yet, craigslist people are a bunch of greedy mothers sometimes. Waiting on picking up a pump until after this cruise to Mexico I'm going on next weekend.

I'm just glad that I can afford to take this setup fairly slow. I have no intention on setting it up in this rental house. The only pressure driving me right now is my Marbled Pim.

Right on we will get the holes drilled Saturday then. I'll send you a PM with my phone # and we can work out a time/address......

It depends more on the shape of the tank. For example, just to make a point, you wanted a tank that's only 1" deep. 1/8th thick glass will be fine. There's DIY Calculators for glass/acrylic thickness in the DIY section. You can poke in a few different tank shapes to see what's possible. The lower more square shaped tanks can use thinner glass. Longer taller tanks the glass needs to be stronger.
