can turtles and fish be kept together?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i think i can win for crazy combos, i have a pelosious subrufa turtle, a musk turtle with a variety of malawi cichlids, 2 huejeta gar, various nice plecos and catfish and an ornate bichir! they all are in harmony without even a scratch to any!

I wanna see a tank with a turtle and northern pike. Lol it would have to be big tank.

I KNOW FOR SURE THAT PUTTING A ALLIGATOR SNAPPER IN A TANK WITH FISH YOU PLAN ON KEEPING IS A BAD IDEA. ALLIGATOR SNAPPERS RARELY LEAVE THE WATER TOO.

My FRT has been kept with small, big, fast, slow fish over the years without a single loss. Plecs are a big no though. I have him in with Tangs now and although they were terrified of him to start they pinch food from his mouth now! Having said that, I've heard that younger turts are more interested in eating fish.

This may be a little repetitive but generally speaking keeping turtles and fish together is not a good idea, im sure there may be some exceptions though.

Speaking from personal experience my florida peninsula cooter ate every fish i tried to put with him until one day i gave him a few feeders and one i guess he couldn't catch one so it lived for several months (he eventually ate him too)

I don't think keeping them together is a good idea however given enough room and a high end filtering system might work like I read a thread earlier about a pond a guy was going to have a turtle in it and gar anfew other types of native fish not sure whats came of it but it was a great thread you should check it out

I've kept pacu, silver dollars, and electric catfish together with turtles in the past successfully. I currently keep clown loaches, tiger barbs, schools of rosy minnows, albino senegal bichir in with turtles. I will be adding more fish as time goes on.

It can be done!
