I came home from work last night and strolled into the bathroom. Turned on the light and...nothing. Since there was just a storm, I didn't think anything of it and since it was still light outside, I couldn't tell if any of my neighbors had also lost power. So I called my electric company to report the outage and see if they could give me an estimate on when it would be repaired.
The lady that answered was about as friendly as a barracuda. In a nasally and rather rude voice she explained to me that my power was shut off for non-payment. I tried to politely explain to her that I have never missed a payment and that my balance was zero. She then put me on hold for 20 minutes while she looked up my record.
After watching my children grow old and run off to college before my eyes, she finally returns on the line. In short, it appears that some idiot from the electric company turned off my power instead of some guy with the same house number on the next street! She then calmly told me that it would be 24 hours before it could be turned back on since all of their employees have left for the day.
Needless to say, when I finally hung up the phone, my voice was hoarse and my neighbors had just learned a few new four letter words that I had made up when screaming at her. Some of them were pretty good if I say so myself.
In the end, I have lost 3 msobos and 1 livingstonii from suffication, 1 keg of beer in my bar went skunk and a ton of food from my freezers. Their response: "you can file a claim which will take 30 to 60 days to see if it was approved!" To see if it was approved??!! Its their flipping mistake! Unfortunately, by the time I got off the phone with them, all of the LFS' were closed so I couldn't buy some battery powered air pumps. Lesson learned: have a bunch on hand in case some electric company employee has a brain fart and shuts off your power!
