If you are worried about swallowing siphon water, thry this. take your siphon head to lowes. get a longer hose to fit. I have a 30' hose on mine now.I skip the bucket and go straight to a floor drain, Also, If your fish are healthy and your water isn't dirty, there is little worry. The biggest thing is rout of entry. Stuff has to have a way to enter your body. Either cuts or swallowing it. I am shure that some water chemicals could cause minor skin reactions. Especially salt water tank stuff.puffer_girl said:Wow, glad I started this tread! This is very informative!!! I never realized any of this..... Thanks for all the info (especially Oddball!) Definitely not going to be using that siphon anymore....... I learn something new from you guys every day!!!!
There are very few types of bacteria that can survive ocean salt concentrations. But, shell fish are associated with the real bad bugs. Those that cause cholera.
As for flukes, and tape worms, Only from eating them or their poo.
