i know for sure you can catch fish turburculosis....and i have gotten a couple bacterial infections before. (i work in a mom and pop fish store over the summers) that kinda sucked.
How did you know you had a bacterial infection? What were the symptoms?
And how did you cure it? Did a doctor confirm that you did infact have a bacterial
infection? Im just curious because no matter what happens to me , I never go to the doctor, so I would like to know the symptoms..
I assume early symptoms are like any other bacterial infection which is just soreness of the area (sometimes there is no soreness) and feeling a little slugish.
until one day you wake up and your face is swollen the size of a tennis ball, the doctor said he was shocked, that I was very close to death . And this required surgery and antibiotics for months to heal..BTW this was all over an abcess tooth...
My mother caught tb from fishtanks..she took care of several so she could have contracted it from freshwater or saltwater tanks? We will never know. But every time she takes a bloodtest (she says) it says she still has tb(im not sure of this but I am sure that she contracted tuburculosis from one of the many tanks she took care of). She got cut by a coral on her elbow, the cut never healed but turned into a huge boil thing (

very nasty) which finally healed after surgery and antibiotics.
Do not buy sick fish , the more fish you introduce to your fish , the risks for bringing home tb are higher, doctors know little about this and chances are you will have to tell your doctor " I caught Mycobacteria marinum from my fish tank , or he might not find out until it kills you or you loose your finger/hand/arm.
here I found this, it might help?

i scrub my hands before and after cleaning my tanks, with baking soda and warm to hot water, after im all done i wash my hands using purell instant hand sanitizer
, a couple times , then antibacterial soap.
its highly unlikely this will happen to you, unless you work in the fish business,
even petco employees are at high risk. but a good clean home aquairium should not be affected with tb..
