Can you dither a Jag to calm it down a bit?

Well,

my first post on these forums was asking if anyone around me had a big enough tank for my giant pacu.

15 minutes later a member named Glenn said he would take him, he lives 20 minutes away! He cam and picked him up a few days later.

Can you send a pic of the Jag for a sex ID? That may help ya out a bit...perhaps you can get it a mate so he/she can divide the agression between the two fish instead of harrassing only one.

I've had great luck with Tin Foil barbs also, they have great size, grow at a rapid rate, and put a bunch of movement in the tank. They are great for eating all the stuff your Jag will chew up and spit out too! My tin foils also ate some of my Oscars' poop...that is priceless IMO! LOL ( I dont think O's digest their food well) And another good thing about Tin foil Barbs is you can find them everywhere, even at Walmart! Get a grow tank and the next thing you know they are big enought to eat.

I had 3 Tin foil's in my 200, along with a butt load of other fish and sold them at a fish store with just about everything else I had. I kept my jags, and that was about it...I wish I had not sold the tinfoils. I figured I'd try the Silverdollars instead...and they are fairly slow growning.

I'd also rearange all of the rocks in the tank, start out the fish where neither one has a home...then hopefully they will find 2 homes, not one desireable home.

Just my thoughts, not an expert or anything!
Good luck

I keep a convict with my jag. lots of chasing but nothing serious, they get along probably 80% of the time and the con outmanouvers the jag in the weeds when he does get chased. The jag does excavate all the cons hideouts though.

Well i think the Jag's agression is due to her getting ready to drop some eggs!

I started another post about it because i've never hosted or witnessed any fish spawning before.

Yep!

She dropped eggs all over the slate!

Maybe i'll have some JD/Jag hybrids? Would that work?

Or maybe the crayfish was getting some of that hot Jagfish action. who knows.

The Jag seems to be abnormally small actually.

The jag is about 10" and the JD is 8". JD is definitely fully grown.

The jag has been the same size for months on end now. I'm guessing (hoping) that he/she is full grown already.

As long as the JD is in a cave, the Jag can't win the battle. He just pokes his head in there, shakes his head around, and then gets shoved out of the way by the JD.

I'm sure the JD can hold his own, and he does, but i don't want him to get too stressed out. He seems like he's not intimidated much by agression though (he is a JD after all.)

Edit- speaking of goldfish! I put some shiners in there from the local bait and tackle a while ago when i still had the Pacu. HOLY #@#$% did that Jag go crazy on those things!

I love to see some carnivorous fish carnage!

yeah man put some convicts in there, and if that doesnt slow him down...bring ur water temp down a bit

The other fish have a lot of free space now as the Jag is guarding her eggs. I don't think they are fertile though, but it sure would be sweet huh?

I think that the female Jag was wooing the JD the whole time, but the JD didn't want to be taken advantage of. The Jag would try to get into JD's cave, i thought it was to bite him, but it was really just to snuggle.

JD and Jag hybrid huh, hummmmm, wonder what that would look like. Well if they hatch and grow take some pics for us.
