Can you do this?

I don't spill any when Im draining the tank but when I fill it up with the bucket, 9 times out of 10 some will trickle down the bucket and onto the glass (we all know what that means!). I have yet to do a 'perfect' water change.
i am still trying to do that on large scale
but when i do water changes on my one and only bettas 5g tank i don't even spill a drop at least until now

needless to say i ALWAYS have some towels on hand. 
I always make a mess when I do water changes....my tanks (5, 10, 30, 50 and a 65) are in the basement in my room...it is too cold to use a hose from outside and no sink/drain in the basement...I have to run up and down a flight of stairs with a 5 gal bucket like 70,000,000 times a week...so brutal and messy..
Why is everyone spilling water? Are you guys multi tasking while doing waterchange? I hardly ever spill water when I do waterchange but I always have a few towels ready just in case. I'm done 200g without spilling. Now that it's cold again I cannot do big water changes due to temperature fluatuation.
