the ray will not "likely" to go up and eat the aro but.. put the aro in it own tank so that it will be easier to treat and heal. people do trim the fins on the aro so that it will grows back nicely.

thank you sir! im 50/50 for doing the triming part of the fins.. i think it's bad when you trim it.. any suggestions about the trimming?

There is a chance the fins will not fully recover, but it should still grow into a beautiful black.

thank you sir! i hope it will grow back again in full fins.. if it will not fully recover its ok.. i like the tribal look of its tail.. haha! i want to make it a monster and a lovable, memorable pet.. black arowana is my top of all arowana..

thank you sir! i just feeding him pure market prawns.. this black is spoiled.. he wont go down because the prawn will sink so i do train him in hand feeding..

i would highly reccommend against using medications or trimming of the fins

IMO the more of the fins remain in tact the quicker and more fully they will grow back, i have had fish get very ripped up and fully recover, you could never tell, i have also had fish get just a split fin, and it healed, but was easy to see for the rest of its life. IMO the deeper into the soft rays of the fin the damage is the worse. tattered fins will grow back easily, there is simply no way to justify cutting deeper into your aro's fins, makes the risks much higher

Don't trim the fins, not sure why anyone would even suggest this on such a small arowana. Keep your water a clean as possible, nitrates below 10ppm, this will help prevent finrot which usually shows up in cases like yours. As long as none of the spines are damaged the fins should grow back fine, I even had a baby black grow back it's tail, they heal quickly.

Remember when you though it would be OK for the aro and Pbass to be together? The ray can do even more damage, so why take a chance?

How big is your aro, 7.4"? I misread the original post. Are you saying that the fins have looked this way since it was beaten up at 4"? They should have healed a long time ago. Can't see real well but likely it has fin rot. You need to get the water params in order, no ammonia, nitrites, nitrates under 10ppm and a pH below 7.0.

The aro is probably big enough to handle the ray, but I would get the ray out of there as it is adding to poor water conditions.
