My elder black aro had faced this fin rot preblem when he was young.
I kept the water in good condition and use melafix for a long times.
The time when he start the fin rot:

After long time treatment, it started to heal:
But his fin had remained like this for quite long time:
(He was around 11-12 inches at that time.)
So i had decided to cut it (according the red doted line).
After a months:
Completely grown: (The Elder is at bottom)
