So I'm thinking the R. Devil is actually a hybrid, maybe some flowerhorn type in it, hence the blue spangling. So jag x flowerhorn type
Interesting. Come to think of it, that's a real possibility. Still, he's just over 6". Shall be interesting to see what he turns up to be in a few months

Any chance it could be Jag x Dempsey?
It has the Dempsey shape, but that seems to be characteristic of a lot of hybrids, specifically the parachromis ones. There could be jack somewhere, but I doubt it’s a main component in this guy.

Seems to have this effect when mixing amphilophus with parachromis. Had me wondering whether many existing breeds in the wild actually resulted from this, and new hybridization brings out some hidden genes

Anyway this guy can get tankmates? Failed to find one he can peacefully go with thus far

In a very large tank, the other big mean guys should do well, but I wouldn’t risk it. Too nice of a fish!
