Can you keep Spotted Gars with Alligator Gars??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I totally agree 6x2x2 is not big I forgot this is (v)onster fish keepers.
So two gators can be kept together??
I think a pond is the best in the end to be sure they wont munch their tank mates.
Can they be kept with other fish successfully??
What temps are suitable for an outdoor pond ?? I live in Melbourne no snow in winter but it does get cold.
Sorry about all the questions but you guys are the BOMB when it comes to knowledge.
Thanks for your advice and opinions.

yes two gator can be kept with each other.
the more the better.:grinno:
there might be fighting though.
but ive never owned one so i cant be sure exactly.
they are known to maul or eat any tankmates they are kept with.

I kept a spotted and gator together for a year,no probs until my jar ripped at my gators mouth while feeding which caused my gator some bad spinal damage. Also, gars need a big tank because when they get spooked they tend to hit the glass at full speed causing them serious snout and spinal damage.I agree on the growth rate, mine went from 3'' to 20'' in about 12 months, unbelievable.

Well i will let you know as i just got one last night,I hope your wrong :}My rtc did not even grow 24 inches in one year.

my gator was 23-25max when he died.. just before he hit his 1 year old mark... he was really tough. only my sister could've killed it! i've posted threads bout how fast he grew last year. sometimes even exceeding 2 inches a month. especially in his early years. there were even pics and vids. hehehe. and they are said to be very aggressive. i eventually took out of most of the fishes that was with him not because he was too agressive but because he was growing at such a fast rate that they can be eaten.

I have two gattors in the same tank atm ( they are growing up so I can put them with the bigger gattor) I have kept gattors with gigas , but the gattors grow faster and start to eye up the gigas! , so anything you keep the gattors with might end up as lunch.

I have been told gattors can live down to 3C , not to sure how true this is , but they do live in Texas , maybe someone from Texas can tell us how cold the water temp gets??? - Might save me on winter heating , haha
