You don't think they'd work out together in a 240 (it's not 8 feet long, only six)?

Not likely to happen sorry. 8 Feet is minimum IMO. A 240 does give them alot of room though so it COULD work out not saying it will.

Well don't mix any guapotes unless you have an 8 foot tank excluding dovii. A jag and a Mota will not get along in any tank under 8 feet even then they will fight constantly. That Mota of mine died because my Salvini killed it because it looked closely related as Salvini's are considered mini guapote because of the same mouth and body structure and some of the same markings. When you are dealing with Jags and other large Guapotes aggression between them is unreal. GL on the female Mota.

i have mixed up to 3 speices, in a 125 with little aggresion, bigger is always better but, a 8 footer isn't always needed. i have seen plenty of cohabs of mota, with jags, or loiselli etc, be very succesful in smaller than 8' tanks. but i would mix with caution, and of course this excludes dovii.

Point me to a link please with a list of different motagunesis. I'm more familiar with the Red Tiger than the others. I'd like to find out for sure what this one is.

And, the tank you're describing is pretty much what I want to have. My list is Green Terror, Jack Dempsey, Mota, Jag, Festae, Salvini, Lima Shovelnose Cat, and Synodontus Eupterus. I already have the GT, JD, Mota, and Syno in my 55 while I build the stand for the big tank. It should be up and running by the end of the month. The Mota and JD are approximately 6", the GT a little smaller at 3 1/2", the synodontus is about 4" (he's hard to get a good look at, hiding a lot).

I've also got this 3" Oscar that will more than likely join them. You can check this forum for my thread with some of the controversy involving his identification. Any help there would be greatly appreciated as well.

To everyone else, if you can help me identify exactly which motaguensis this is, I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks for all the help and suggestions and thanks again for this great forum. I've come a long way in a short time with all your help.:)

I call this series of shots 'What A Difference A Day Makes' or 'Everyone Who Said Mota Is Right On The Money'.:D

Before, where there was no yellow in person, now there's lots of yellow in person and on film...

This one is starting to show a tinge of red on the bottom fin. So what is the concensus now? Red Tiger Mota or friedrichsthalii or loisellei?

Thanks again everyone for all your help and comments.:) I'll take some more shots in a day or two and see what changes come.

I went back to the fish store today and took some pics of the two that came with my mota. I think one is a jag and the other is a smaller mota like mine.

I'll post the photos up in a little while and let you guys tell me what you think.

romised, here's some photos from the fish store of the other two fish that came in as "Jaguars".

The first one I think may be a mota like the one I brought home. It's about 3 inches to 3 1/2 inches long, nose to tail. What do you think (sorry for only one pic, he was pretty shy)?...

These next photos are of the fish I think may actually be a jag. This one's about 4 1/2 inches to 5 inches long, nose to tail. The large white spots on his sides are where he's missing scales. I assume much combat took place as all three of these fish were placed in the same bag for a 5 hour van ride.

Anyway, check these out and tell me what you think as well...

This one shows how bad he is beat up pretty well. It's pretty much like this on both sides...
DSCF1127.jpg

So, what do you guys think? Is the beat up fish a jag? Is the other fish a mota? If, in fact, the beat up fish is a jag, I'll let the store nurse him back to health and pick him up when he's doing better.

Thanks again for the help, comments, suggestions, snide remarks, etc.:)
