My 6 red bellies have spawned like 10-12 times in the last 3-4 months.... I'm over it... I don't want to raise the fry and rather have them dedicating resources to growing and not breeding.

Is there a way to discourage them from breeding?

have no idea, usually people would like to trigger them to breed.
could try lower the water temperature and feed a bit less but I have no idea if that will help.
how many breeding pairs do you have? 10-12 times in 3-4 months is a lot, like at least once every month for 3 pairs. if you only have one breeding pair then I guess you could split them, either sell or give it away or put them in two separate tanks.
can't you find any lfs around you that would buy those fry from you? if you have a customer base you could make a little business out of it.

seperate them .. is the only sure fire way

the question is why would you want to?

First u shld make a sticky on this. It will greatly help otherswho want to breed piranha!

I haven't been able to successfully raise them to a significant size.. I've tried breeder nets but it seems like they always become polluted and stagnant no matter what i try. It's also a pain because they tear everything to **** when they breed including each other. I want them GROWING bigger lol

I'm pretty positive I have 3 separate breeding females and for sure 2 males that mate with them. I think the largest dominant male mates with all of them. I'm not sure if my last one is a male or female.

Trade your Reds in for Caribes.
Then you'll never have a breeding problem.

Unless you're god.

Sounds like you got something special goin' on there - can we see some pics of your breeding P's?

I've seen my ex-Red Terrors breed 3-4x in 3-4 mo. 1 male 2x females a total of 8x fry in one year - a few pics are in my personal gallery, theres a ton more posted in the SA/CA forum. (shortly after Xmas 09' the 150gal cracked on the bottom -woke up to large dead fish) -
