Can you use nylons to hold carbon in a canister filter?

So im about to set up my fluval and i want to put some carbon in there but dont have the nylon bags to hold it, do you guys think i could use a new womens nylon to hold it? I just dont know if it is the same thing the bags are made out of and if it is aquarium safe.

let me know if this is as dumb of an idea as im starting to think it is, Thanks Brandon
 
so i set up the fluval, put the noodles in the first media basket, foam in the second and carbon( with the nylon) on the third. i pumped in the water like you are supposed to, started it up AND...... nothing.. the engine is going inside but no water is being put out,could this be because i filled the media baskets to much??
 
Great idea! Have been using them with all types of media in canister and power filters for years.
 
I guess i have a question , that may be an answer. Why are you running carbon? All it does is remove water odors , discolors and medications. Other than that after 2 weeks it becomes toxic to your tank. If you have a clean tank it wont smell and wont be discolored. So maybe it might be best if you used more bio media or mechanical filtration in place of the carbon. I use to love carbon , until i found out it does nothing , and becomes toxic after awhile. I add more bio media now and my tanks are cleaner than they use to be running carbon. I also could never get my water params to 0 , because my carbon was killing my water after a while.

Just keep unplugging it and pumping. It took me an hour one time to get a fluval with those stupid pump start things going.
 
Got everything working, idk what the problem was but after enough messing around with it its up and running.

Its good to hear that i wont be the first to try this:)
