Canister Debate: Which Do You Use?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use 2 Eheim ProII 2028's. Awesome filters so far. No problems whatsoever. Very easy to prime (just push a button). They were a bit pricey but they do an awesome job.

Used a Fluval 403 for years. The impellor got noisy about 3 years ago, pretty sure it was damaged because no amount of cleaning helped, but it still ran fine for 3 years even though it rattled like crazy!

Am in the process of replacing it with a home made wet/dry sump filter as its not big enough for my tank/fish anymore.

I have also used a couple of smaller Eheim units (not sure of model), pretty much the same as the Fluval in operation/maintenance.

I would choose a Fluval MSF, but I have only used to 304 and the 404, I have not tried the 104 or 204...

Also I love my Eheim Wet/Dry!!!
Came with my tank and I am in love with it,, even if the fluval msf isnt running my tank stays crystal clear.....

I have a rena filstar that is working great in a 125. Easy to prime and to control media-wise. It really puts out the current.

I use JEBO. Very good filtration and are REALLY quite, i got a 1500lph one running my 70g which is a metre away from my bed and i sleep at night like a baby.

AND they are very good priced compared to well known brands!

I used magnum 350s in the past, provided adequate flow, but needs cleaning all too often. I currently run 2 fluval 404 on my 75g piranha tank, no media except floss...sometimes carbon....all my other tanks....SUMPS. Much better than all the rest

I'm using a PENN-PLAX cascade 1500 suitable for aquaria up to 200gals.

I prefer to use Eheim i have always used Eheim but on this occasion i thought i'd try something a little cheaper.

It's an ok filter is the PENN-PLAX don't get me wrong but i would swap it for a Eheim anyday.
