iv always had HOB filters on my tanks but now that my 140 is in my living room the two AC110's sound like niagra falls. its driving me and my gf nuts. my tank is sitting on the floor and i was woundering if a canister filter would work on it. do they need gravity to work? sorry im a total noob when it comes to these types of filters.

its possible you just have to cut the hoses super short and sit the canister right behind it.

but i would suggest putting some cinder blocks under your tank and useing that as a stand so you dont have to buy new hoses and its easyer to clean.

Drape a sheet of filter floss over the waterfall part of the ACs. I've got mine set up like this, it's 10 feet away right now and I can only hear the hum of the motor.

lol ya its on the floor because the guy that gave it to me had it on two sketchy metal end tables with 2x10's laying across them not even wide enough for the tank:grinno: i work out of town 15 days on 6 off and im usually pretty buisy on my days off. the cinder block stand isnt a bad idea does anyone have pictures of theirs? remember my tank is in the living room it has to look good for the old lady. i need to know how i would go about using cinder blocks for a stand.

buy a stand and a Fluval FX5 and call it a day.

lol easyer said then done. my money goes to more important things at the moment. plus id never pay for a outragously priced stand when i coulld probably pay someone in beer to build me one.

I'll take a picture

Here:
Plastic rods keep the sheet from falling into the tank
