Canister filters

I personally like the Eheim Classic series. Time tested. They are pricey up front, but pay you pack over time b/c they generally run far past the competitors. I will have to say my older marineland equipment was also great and lasted almost as long as the eheim's, but the newer stuff is not built as well IMO.

I have a marineland thats part of the c series, piece of junk imo. Air gets trapped inside easily, for about 2 weeks I couldn't get it to work, and the valve on the top doesn't stop the water completely, so I need to prime the filter each water change, nothing too big of a deal, but for it being only 2-3 years old, it worrys me how much longer it will last. My eheim that's part of the pro series literally has had 0 issues in 5 years, and still has strong flow, seems the same from when it was brand new.

From what I have seen people post the classic series seems to be the one most people favor.

Ok so 3 major ehiem canister filters... classic, advanced, and pro. I'm between classic and advanced. any major or notable differences in usability or performance???

I have pro and classic 2262. Pro is a little more user friendly as in it provides baskets and easy to close latches. Classic is basically a cylinder, you can decide what to put in there; but media bag I highly recommend. Not sure what is advanced. If it has to do with electronics, I would skip. I do not like to mix electronics with mechanical stuff.

My Marineland C series has broke twice in past 2yrs. I hate it. was first time I ever bought a canister filter, always used sump systems. But after seeing how simple these canister filters were, decided to give them a try. I still use the marineland, but on my big tank, decided to add to add a canister with my wet/dry filter. I went with the Rena XP4, think called the XP L now. Couldn't b happier with it, quite, good flow, and easy to clean!
