i am setting up a 630 litre (163 gallon) tank(without filters). i have al ready got one canister filter but i would like to run 2 as it is a brackish set up and the fish will have more excrament as i am going for large fish. so far ive got a sunsun filter and i was thinking of getting a fluval 404 is this a good filter. i am able to spend up to $290 american or $350 australian on the one filter. would some one be able to tell me a good filter in that prcie range.

okay. what is a good website to find out info about filters like how many stage filtration, power of pump etc? they look alright but they look like they were built in the 90's. are there any updated versions? iwas thinking the 2026 or 2028 pro 2's are they decent?

Personally I'd go with the Fluval 405 especially for the money but your going to get as many answers as there are filter owners...where are all the Rena people? For 290.00 AM you can get two of the same canisters (no mater what brand you choose) and thats ALWAYS a good idea.

yeh ive already got one but i think my tank being brackish and being 200 litres more than the filter is rated to i should get another. so i was thinking fx5 or an eheim but thoose eheims look old and so no updated technollogy and im not getting a modern eheim which are $900AU because i dont have the money or the patience to save up fer one. also are fluval 404's good filters

Not necessarily true. Most eheim canisters couldn't be bought in a pair for $290.

If it isn't broken don't fix it. Eheim classic filters are tried and true filters. They have been run through the ringer for many decades. 2026 and 2028 are both good filters, but for the money you have, 2 2217 or 1 2260 will do much more bio and mech filtration than one 2026 or 2028. Neither of the pro 2 filters could be purchased in a pair for $290. Pro 3e filters are much better IMO, but they will run you a few extra pennies. I personally don't like the XP3 filters. For the size tank you have I'd be running your current filters, and the two filters I recommended. Two 2028s would work just as good, but they will run you $380 minimum.

i know i can get a 404 fluval. i wouldnt mind an eheim or a fluval fx5. but the 404 looks alright but if i can get better......
