So my tank is drilled for two overflows and instead of making a sump I was wondering if I could hook up two canisters instead.... Now my concern was air getting sucked Into the canister. Has anyone ever tried this?ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1362586732.521721.jpg. I'd rather do this because honestly I don't understand how I would build one sump that connects to take overflows like that.

you are missing the overflow portion and just left aith holes and standpipe. remove the standpipe and its a closed loop system and will work well. im gonna remove the overflow on a rimless tank and run canisters through the drilled holes

looked at the pics and i think i was wrong, if the pic is the outside bottom and overflow is still in i wouldnt try. remove overflow box and run closed loop or your canister will suck in air and burn out the motor quickly unless you can keep the standpipe short enough and flow low enough the surface skimming basically doesnt happen

Yeah that is the bottom of the tank... I I removed the overflow and plugged up the when would it be fine? Would rather not run a sump seeing as I have no clue what I am doing

if the overflow box is removed, you already have bulkheads, id just get locline return kit and an intake strainer and hook it up.

Get another ball valve so you can turn off both of those inlet pipes during canister maintenance.

Also, you might check out whether, or not, the increased flow rate through the canister will negatively effect the bio filtration. I have no idea, just thinking.

ive seen guys use the over flow box to hide the intake's of the filters, and then just have the output in the tank where ya want like normal...kinda of a cool idea tho to hook up the canister right on the actual pipe's of the overflow pipes under or back of the tank.... only thing id be worried about is the canister hose slipping off the pipe of the tank lol i wouldnt mind see'ing pics of this when your done :)

actually i member a guy having a either 1 or 2 fx5's hooked up into his overflows on a tank think it was this forum, or maybe another was pretty darn cool maybe someone else knows what im talking bout thread wise ? or im just drunk lmao
