I had 4 new clown loaches in my quarantine tank. I bought them about 3 weeks ago. I've been treating them for ich since they came in, since they had a very minor case of it when I bought them. I raised the temperature to 86 deg. F, I put about 1 tbsp of salt per 10 gal in the tank, and then I proceeded to use Jungle Ich tabs when that didn't work. I had 2 die today, a third is on its back dying right now, and the fourth is certainly on the way out the door. What could I have done differently to save these fish? I do water changes twice a week and I did everything I know of to prevent and eliminate the ich.

Did you dissolve the salt thoroughly? Dissolve the salt. That's what I did when I treated several catfish and loaches. Your other option is formalin. Formalin depletes oxygen so you need to keep your tank well aerated. Malachite green works but is lethal when overdosed especially as you are dealing with scaleless fish.

Well, I used the recommended dose for the tabs: 1 tab per 10 gallons. I dissolved the salt. Its so frustrating!

I would have continue salt treatment for 10 days. If the loaches died, you may have added salt too quickly that their osmoregulatory system fail to catch up with the added electrolytes. I should have mentioned this earlier but completely overlooked it.

I agree 100% High temp (86) and salt for 10 days or so. Even if it goes away after a day, keep it up for at least ten.

Well, I've been doing this for about 3 weeks, which is far longer than 10 days. I started the tab treatment about 5-6 days ago.

You must have a tough strain...Keep up the hard work. Try to feed sparingly.

I would try not to buy clown loaches with even a minor case of ich. Unless you got an insane deal it's not really worth it, clown loaches are already sensitive as it is.

$6 each, and they were all oddball loaches. I couldn't pass it up, since they usually sell out immediately at my LFS, and they usually charge more for the oddballs.
