Can't beat the ich!

I've had very good luck with using Hikari Ich-X. Catching it early is the key. I've also had many customers in your situation, usually they've tried a few medications before talking to me. If you catch the ich early, Ich-X will treat it in 3 days. If it's been a prolonged case, like yours, it can take up to 6 days to treat.

Normally I tell my customers, if by the 4th day, if there has been no improvement. The medication isn't working, at which point I get them to switch to Hikari Ich-X and it's cured within 5 days. I also recommend, doing a water change and putting in new carbon, and letting it sit 24 hours, before starting a new medication.

Also making sure your nitrates are below 40, will go a long way in the recovery of the clown loaches. I hope they're still eating, as that'll give them the strength to have their immune system fight off the recuring ich.

If you do go with this medication, please report back with the results. I'm definately one not to use medications unless I have too. But i strongly recommend this to loach keepers. And always use it at the full dosage. It is not harmful to the loaches. Half dose will only cause stress. and not accomplish the results you want.

seachems paraguard... i cured 8 loaches in about 48 hours at 4x dose.... loaches are still thriving to date..

I lost more than half of my loaches to ich, 1 tablespoon of salt per 5 gallons and 86 degree water did nothing. I bumped it up to 89 at the end, no clue if that actually helped though.

Have any studies been done to determine how much salt is actually need to kill ich? Also, any studies that show how toxic actual medications are to fish?

I'm glad more advice is pouring in, but all of my loaches died about 2 weeks ago! I'll gladly update if I have another bout with ich again, though!
