I have a 30 gallon long tank that houses livebearer fish. My main rule in my house is NEVER lean or set anything on or against the tank. Wouldn't you know it when my niece was adding water after a water change, she leaned the bucket on the side of the tank for a very brief moment. Everything seemed fine, until an hour later when I noticed the water level was down by 3 inches. I went over to look and found a pool of water on my floor. Checked all over the tank and couldn't find where the leak was.

Took everyone out and put them in a 5.5 gallon for time being (ugh). We drained the tank and I still cannot find the area where the leak is. Everything, including the wooden stand, was dry, except at the bottom where it meets the floor. Even under the tank and inside the bottom was dry. I am very clueless. Luckily, my lfs is going to exchange it for free. I even checked filters in case they were overflowing..nope. And it isn't an airline either.

Anyone else ever have this happen?

That's indeed a weird "rule." When would you be tempted to lean stuff against a fish tank anyway? How can you lean a bucket against a tank? A bucket (normally) has a round flat base, if its not on its base it tips over, how can it "lean" against anything?
Maybe she just didn't fill up the tank, and spilled some water? There is no other explaination if the water has went down no futher!

she leaned it on the rim of the tank while refilling it... :screwy:

Wow. And here I was told this place was a nice place to meet people who enjoyed the same hobby I do. Someplace to share experiences.
Right...
I didn't realize it was someplace where people would make fun of you, or humiliate your lack of experience, as I have been seeing on these posts. At least this post got a few responses.

here usually this doesn't happen
this is a nice place to learn
and btw i think one of the seams must have gone loose and must have started to leak

have u check the filter it might have overflowed if hob filter.

Took tank to lfs today for replacement. She set it up and tried to find where it is leaking. Has been set up for over 8 hours and not a single leak. :irked:

I checked filters (which are now running on 2 different tanks with no problem), checked airline tubing and everything else and nothing was leaking. But since the stand wasn't wet, I am completely befuddled.

I am going to pick the tank up again tomorrow. I plan on setting it back up and seeing what happens. I don't want to put fish back into it until I am certain it is okay.
Any idea how long I should leave it set up before returning fish?

Kinda sucks... since you dumped out all the tank water im assuming your going to need to re-cycle your tank.. so your going to need at least a couple of weeks to wait until you re-add your fish...
