Can't believe this

Possible the bucket had a leak? Also, I kinda did that with a 5 gallon once when I used a bowl to fill it up. The water spilled onto the rim and instead of going into the tank, decided to go under the black lining and outside of the tank. Maybe that could have been the problem?

I am certain it was the tank. I was leaking over a long period of time and we checked everywhere. The only possible thing I can think of is it had something to do with the net breeder in it. We took out fish and put all of them, including net breeder, in a different tank and then checked everything else. I once had a net breeder where the little string was accidently put outside the tank and it was slowly dripping water out, but I didn't see anything like that.

Fortunately, the filters are still running, and I have the decorations and stuff from the tank in the one the fish are in now, so I shouldn't go through another cycle. Poor things though. They are definitely not happy and let me know it ;)

Kinda sucks... since you dumped out all the tank water im assuming your going to need to re-cycle your tank.. so your going to need at least a couple of weeks to wait until you re-add your fish...

You cycle the filter, not the tank. It's just there for nutrient supply.;)

.

craftmage, how long before you get the new tank?

I got the tank and it is all set up with their old filter which was running in the tank they were being held in. It does look as though it is going to go through a small cycle, so I added Bio Spira to it to help it along, and took a filter from an older tank as well. No leaks ;) Never did figure this one out, neither did the lfs.

That's indeed a weird "rule." When would you be tempted to lean stuff against a fish tank anyway? How can you lean a bucket against a tank? A bucket (normally) has a round flat base, if its not on its base it tips over, how can it "lean" against anything?
Maybe she just didn't fill up the tank, and spilled some water? There is no other explaination if the water has went down no futher!

After reading in the Sept issue of TFH about James Fatherree's 125 leaking when he bumped the top frame with a 5 gallon bucket, I've got the same rule. Better safe than sorry.

Who told ya that???

Wow. And here I was told this place was a nice place to meet people who enjoyed the same hobby I do. Someplace to share experiences.
Right...
I didn't realize it was someplace where people would make fun of you, or humiliate your lack of experience, as I have been seeing on these posts. At least this post got a few responses.

I agree, with that part of the post.... If you said there wasn’t but water of the floor maybe she spilt it, because if it was a steady flow of water (even slowly) wouldn’t it wet some part in between? Well, I guess maybe not if it leaked to the point where it was past the "break" then the water on the stand evaporated.

From all I have read here sounds most likely when being refilled water was simply spilled on the floor and wasn't even put into the tank. Where it was assumed the tank was full the remaining water was simply just spilled on the floor un-noticed until later.
is it possible that it happened this way?
