Maybe it you used different temp water it caused condensation and made it seem like a leak. Happened to me when I was filling a tank.

Did you actually see the tank being filled to whatever you wanted to be filled at before you left.
Perhaps someone took water out of tank for whatever reason when you weren't around or it was a spill from the bucket when it was resting on the floor.

Do you have an air stone in the tank? Maybe she filled it high and it slowly splashed the water behind the tank?
