Can't Decide Which Lungfish to Get!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nah I would keep it solo in it's own tank. I love all my fish too much to risk him ripping apart my polys. I've heard the same, some africans can be really chill, some are absolutely vicious to fish but like to be pet by their owner, and some hate everything lol. Any situation won't deter me, they're such cool fish that even the worst case scenario is ok with me, just as long as he can't hurt my other fish
either way lungfish are super cool! and so are polys! Any way they could send you a pic?

If I end up getting I'll definitely post a ton of pics. Right now I'm waiting to hear back about shipping and I'm trying to decide if/where I can put another tank. Aquaholism takes up a lot of space lol
Hahaha this is true. When I was in college I had a 20gal and 40gal in my bedroom. Another option instead of a big tank for the lung, could be finding a compatible lung to put with the polys.

yeah I considered geting a SAL since they're usually peaceful but I think growth rate would be an issue. You usually can't get them smaller than 5-6", which is about the size of most of my polys, but they grow really fast when young, almost 2" a month sometimes. So I think their growth would outpace most of my polys and then I'd have to separate them or lose polys. When everyone is full grown a SAL would probably be fine with most lower jaws, but would probably have a lot of problems before I got to that point due to the slower growth rate of most polys.

Are lungfishes dangerous to polys?

I used to have an albino marbled lungfish named it nessie it was pretty laid back I hope to eventually get another albino marbled lung later on after I move

Probably can be if they want to bite

Any African species is a huge risk to comm. They may look slow and placid but, their dental plates act like metal shears. Even a test bite or accidental bite can do devastating damage to any tank-mate.
