...and what about the animal control official allowing the cop to risk damage to his vehicle by shooting the secured dog and then remaining at the scene all that time.Perhaps I missed something but what I recall reading is sickening.

I'd need to know more about the conversations between him and the officers but im assuming the officers are still in control of the situation at that point.

Starting to sound more and more like an animal task force is needed to handle all calls potentially involving animals. Animal sensitive training and work in collaboration with animal control. Dog shooting is becoming too common

What's your address? ....J/K

Awww Borg, he'd have no chance if that officer showed up. I can control him pretty well but he "alerts" us when someone's at the door or a car alarm goes off. If an officer were standing at my door for a noise complaint he'd be going nuts until introduced and shown its not a threat. You got barking pit bull wanting to see whos at the door. How do you think that scenario plays out? Can't tell me you wouldn't feel bad

I'm not totally heartless, In fact I actually like dogs. I just treat them in their rightful place in the world. They will never be a 'family member' in my eyes. I loved my 16 year old cat but he was still just a cat.

I agree though the mindset of police with dogs today is out of control.

This was way overboard, can't believe he did that. Animals seem to suffer way too much.

Many years back I had a neighbor with annoying barking dogs. Barked all day and night, while the neighborhood complained to owners, the police and city wouldn't\couldn't do much. The owner had an "f you" attitude.

Eventually the neighborhood residents resorted to feeding the dogs peanut butter and dramamine sandwiches. This would knock the dogs out for most of the day or night so residents could regain their sanity. Sad it came to drugging the dogs. They didn't choose their existence but people deserve quiet in their own homes.

LMAO!!!
Love it. I'm keeping that idea for later use.

I think it's sad that animals are punished for the owner's mistakes and neglect. It's simple, if you don't have time for your pets, don't have pets. A barking dog is a bored dog.

^ you agree the dog should be put down humanely though? I think thats the bigger issue here. 8 shots fired at a terrified dog who simply needed better care or to be relocated.

Hello; Yes I can imagine better ways the situation could be handled. So is the main issue that the police tokk more than one clean shot or is it more that the dog was killed?
