The irony is that that’s the fence the heron sits on to literally dive in head first and steal them! I made it so they couldn’t wade (six foot deep) and I didn’t know they could dive! And take off from in water! And yes it’s a heron not a shag or some other bird.
Will give it two more hours and announce a winner of this round.

Yes, I've watched herons many a time whilst fishing. They're crafty buggers. If there's fish there, they'll come up with a way to get them.
