captive hystrix or wild?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As its unlikley i will be able to raise 300. 200 is a stretch as i have recently dropped alot on filters and tank

On the flip side, I brought a trio or four, honestly can't remember now, of WC hystrix From Richard, which were quarantined and treated and feeding well on worms before he'd sell them to me - his standard practice. I raised them over nearly two years, no issues, they were fussy eaters at times and not all would break off worms or prawns onto pellets. But I raised them to breeding age and they were amazing, my most favourite rays I've ever had. Sadly I sold them in a great deal which I regret really but hey ho. Moral of this particular post is you can buy healthy WC and not have much trouble at all with them as long as you buy WC from a reputable source that quarantines correctly. You could save a little money this way in the initial purchase yes, but I'd still favour CB for all the well known reasons.

U mind saying how much they cost you each ?

Interesting read, as a Polypterus guy, WC is something highly saught after as oppose to CB. Didn't know the ray world was opposite.

I'm all in favour of bringing in WC bloodlines, any day of the week in terms of breeding, the gene pool needs refreshing for sure. But CB are considered to have Better markings down the generations along with no parasites and feeding on pellets etc etc.

I actually paid £150 a pup WC unless Richard chimes in and corrects me. I was happy to pay £150 and to this day think £150 per CB is a very good price, quality hystrix could and should command a higher price tag IMO but I'm glad they don't lol!
