Caquetaia sp. gorillus black umbriferum SPAWN (Load Alert)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Small update. Fry are doing well. The fry with the pair are growing faster than the ones by themselves. I feed them the same, but the big tank has a grip load of algae so they're constantly grazing.

Female has darkened up a bit and the pair has been doing well. She protects, he patrols. ;-)

Congrats bro they're looking amazing:) and there's few reasons why fry left with parents benefit more than those pulled early on. Fry left with parents will always out grow any pulled out. And usually fry that are left alone the most from the get go will also benefit more than the others. Keep up the great work!!

Ah man, that sucks. Does the male flip out on her when she does that?

Throw some target fish in there to give her reason to protect and keep the fry. My large female mag ate the fry and eggs the first 9 spawns...as soon as I put in targets I was golden.

I put two large HRPs in with them before when they werent spawning and they got thrashed. Not even eaten, just brutally thrashed. I have been thinking of putting in some bigg(er) red hooks or something. aclockworkorange has some nice wide bars, but Im scared they'd be torn up frisbees.

What kind of targets did you have?

I tried that....I used midas that were 5" or so and the male umbee is 12" or so and he wouldn't let them move from the rocks they were hiding under at ALL I had to remove two when the 3rd lost his head

Were yours blue? The consensus here seems to be at the blues are more aggressive than the blacks.

She really is. She wont let Congo near them. She such a different fish. Night and day. She used to be Congo's rag doll.

We have a tournament coming up in Centralia soon. I'll bring some fry if timing works out ;-)

i only live about an hour north of centralia(hint, hint, not too far of a drive for me(.... i would love to add some blacks to my collection. I just bought 13 blues from Jason, and have 4 rios from forrest...... the only prescription for umbee fever, is more umbee;)

Thanks bro! I think there were blue spawns, not sure about blacks.

Congrats CF! I've actually had a couple successful spawns of my Black pair.... My last batch of 200-250 fry went to BlesOne to raise since I was leaving for a camping trip and they would have been neglected. Not sure what size they are now but there should be some nice F2's in circulation in the very near future.

Congrats again and great pictures Justin!
