Great lookin fish. I went on a few snorkel trips in the florida keys a couple weeks ago and saw many schools of trevally. I don't know what species but they were the friendliest of all the fish there, often schooling up around us and following us around as we swam.

I am wondering, what was your inspiration to keep the trevally in the first place?

It's the Hawaiian spirit in me. When I was growing up in Hawaii it was a prized catch and still is today but with size regulations. You can find them way up in the mountain rivers and streams. Also saw them at the Neal Blaisdell Concert Hall pond and Pagoda Hotel koi pond.
It's no doubt that they need salt to grow and stay healthy. After all, they are marine fish! Continuing to learn from this captive group.

Ah, I did extensive snorkeling in the reefs around kona some 20 years ago, but never looked much into the interior waterways. Though I do remember stopping at some streams/creeks along saddle rd when bisecting the island on one on the seven days I was there. Truly magical place the big island was, I hope still is. One day I'll get back there, hope you do too.
