carbon question?

I've also heard that carbon can cause HITH disease...But both my Oscars that I've kept since small juveniles have been fine with the carbon...Down the road I might just choose to use ammonia remover instead of carbon in my AC.

I really just think HITH is caused by bad nutrition and poor water quality.

I would be really surprised that carbon cause HITH, I have to agree and say its probably from feeder fish.

So I have a Fluval 405 top 2 trays are biomax, bottom 2 are carbon. Should I remove the carbon and put pre-filter instead.

Yes, I think you will see more benefits from removing it then from leaving it there (like more $ not wasted on stupid consumables)

if you have a small tank,its good to use carbon and replace is periodically,obvoisly a big tank wont be affected by small amount of expired carbon,put huge amount of carbon there and im sure that it will affect the water quality

Yeah I removed my carbon it was about 2 months old anyways. I put fluval pre-filter in the bottom 2 trays.
