Caribsea Super Natural Tahitian Moon Black Sand

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I sell this stuff at wholesale to lfs. Its very nice sand. I used it in my black ray tank 300 gal. I have it in other tanks also. I removed it from my 300 gal because it is very light and does get sucked up by filtration especially if you have cornerflows that suck from down low. The rays move around a lot and stir it up like crazy. It has a very nice shimmer especially under led lighting. Metallic effect. Ive never heard of it containing metal or actually being metallic... Sounds odd to me! I would recommend this product and it is actually my #1 seller of many substrates i distribute in canada for FW tanks. Cheers:)

That's some great info here thanks guys. From pics it looks like its heavier then normal sand? Stingray keeper you say it gets kicked up easily, do you know any other black sand that looks just as good but doesn't get kicked up as easily?

Honestly i do not. It is still ok size not like sugar fine but probably 4 times that. Just with bigger rays and high turn over rate of water it wasn't ideal in my case. I have it in my small 65 gal tank and i love it.

I tried it in a couple of tanks and I didn't like it. It is very light and would get sucked up during vacuming/water changes. I still have some but I mixed it with PFS, I like the look better and it doesn't get sucked up so much. I thought black sand would look really good but tired of it quickly. PFS is IMO far superior but as mentioned mixed about 70% PFS and 30% black it not bad. The rest of my tanks are stright PFS.

My thoughts pretty much exactly. I still have a mix in two tanks and like it a lot, but it's about 4 parts pfs 1 part Black.
