Carpintis growth rate

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah I've had Two juveniles for 3weeks now and was discussing growth with the Mrs and I personally don't see much growth compared to what Iwas used to with say Oscar's. That's not a big deal mind you. They are in a 75g by themselves with weekly water changes of roughly 50%. I don't see as much hardy feedings as I recall getting from Os either. But that's fine as well, they do appear more intelligent however. I did have to divide them due to the bigger chasing the smaller too much. I'm trying to get them to grow together hoping to remove the partition eventually. They are seen often just hanging out looking at each other. We'll see how it turns out.

Look at this old relic of a thread lol. Joking of course.

Pesche Pesche , if I were a willing to bet I’d say those are two males. And if that’s the case I doubt they’ll coexist in that 75. Hell, once the male that I had hit 5 inches he wouldn’t even tolerate the siphon in the tank. Take that with a grain a salt though, I had my male carpintis for less than a year even. duanes duanes could probably give a more accurate ID for male or female.

And yes pretty slow growing fish. I was doing around three 40-50% water changes each week, which definitely helped a little bit. Actually don’t have this fish anymore. At a certain point the 75 didn’t seem like it was going to be enough, and I don’t have the space for a tank larger than 4ft.

I first got these H. carpintus "loc Chairel" in May 2012, they were around 1" at the start
Below a shot from Feb 2013 (@ 8 months later)
My average water change schedule, is 30-40% every other day. And I believe water changes are "the" most important component to good growth , as long as all other general care practices are followed.
In Oct 13, below, add a couple inches
I understand you may be able to sex these two I'm growing out, what are your thoughts sir? Thanks ahead of time.
