There should probably be a forum just for the Texas and their south of the border relatives. :grinno:

Anyways, I have a fairly new resident in one of my tanks that is a type of Texas. He/she is about 8" nose to fin. Can any Tex experts here tell me if this is a carp, or a cyan? A hybrid?
I had a more standard cyanoguttatus in the past, but he was more of a brown base with very light yellowish or blue tinted spots. This guy has a deeper blue colored spots on a grayish base and more spot variation. Of course his mood changes these colors a bit and he sometimes gets a bit deeper hued than these pics show. He could well be a cyanoguttatus with individual variation. All the caprintis pics seem to show the larger blue/green spots. Appreciate any opinions, thanks.

I guess I will have to give the fish some more time to get adjusted to the environment and go from there.

I'm going to have to go with Carpintis, most Cyanos I've personally seen don't have the pattern over the snout.

Well definitely not a cyano, actually.

The pearlings on a cyano are small, and very regular. Like this:

The pearlings on a carp is a lot more irregular, both in pattern, shape and distribution.

The reason I say hybrid is because of lack of worm pearling on face...as you can see your cyano has no worm pearling which is correct for species. but the OP's pic doesn't have worm pearling either which is telling me hybrid as it is not pure carpintis. either way...stellar fish!!
