Carpintis or cyanoguttatus?

The worming on the face is not an absolute must, it may be present or it may not, or it may be overly presented.

That said, I agree that something is a bit off.

It's a classic green texas, aka carpinte

The worming and spots are too large to be cyano.

it IS a hybrid of both. Texas cyanos have white/silver pearls and Carpinis have turquois/blue pearls. Not going by pictures; I've owned a few of both in the past. But those pics are pretty good and clear

I have to agree, he doesn't match up with carpintis exactly. I gave the fish more time to adjust and the colors remained basically the same. He was specifically labeled a carpintis, so I was definitely disappointed to get a fish that was not as advertised. I just attributed the initial colors to stress. He was one skittish SOB, even by JD standards. There must be someone breeding them because I have seen the same exact looking fish in the 7-8" range in a couple other LFS. Oh well, he has since moved on to a new owner. His tank is now occupied by a 7-8" Midevil who keeps trying to kill me through the glass.

Carpintis varies greatly though, from pearling color to shape, size, pattern, distribution etc.

Not all Carpintis can get the amazing colors and patterns of a SGT (hence why they're called 'Super'), or even come close. I've always thought that the 'stock standard' Green Texas has considerably less coloration/attractive pearling attributes so I personally don't really think that it's a hybrid.

Possible of course, but I wouldn't be so quick to put it past natural variations.

It's colors are way to vibrant to be a regular Texas but it has very little pearlings in the face so id say hybrid
