sorry been work 7 days a week and i am tired, so i want to go cast netting in the middle of the night at my "local ditch" i am in melbourne fl. Do you think i will catch anything exotic? If anyone has tried this reply and tell me what you have caught.

never went at night cus of the skeeters here in the swamps lol

i find it easier to catch fish on the cast net at night. we have a local warm spring here where people release their exotics and i seem to do better at night. probably because the fish are sleeping and not aware of the net til its too late.
i've caught a bunch of convict cichlids, texas cichlids, plecos, catfish, turtles, goldfish, mollies, and even a silver dollar.
i wish people wouldnt release in that warm spring though cause now the desert pupfish is extinct from that certain spring. too late now though the cichlids and mollies have already established themselves and have been breeding for probably 15-20 years now.

You should also try a large dip net type of net, we call 'em shrimp nets in these parts. the cast net may damage some of the cooler stuff to find in a ditch in florida. read: Amphiuma (sp?)

Balmoreah Texas in the onl place that i know they are found. tell the texas legislature that yours are extinct over there in florida and you need some more, they might let you take some.
I have never used a cast net, but I have seined for stuff before. We once had an albino channel in the creek near my house. We had a huge American Eel as well. I say go for it and you might find some cool stuff. State law prohibits fishing at most places at night so good luck with you.
