Hey , I am new to Monster Fish Keepers, and this site rocks.

i was wondering about catching wild fish and what needs to be done to continue life away from there natural habitat , if there is any extreme precautions that in need to take. i am a avid angler and i love catching peacock bass ( ALL RELEASED ! ! ! ! ! ), and i think it would be awesome to have a large tank with a bunch of peacock's in it !!!!!
 thx

hmm its most likely illegal to transport live wild-caught fish without a license so i would check your laws before you go doing it just some advice

peacock bass are the only intentionally introduced non-native fish in Florida. they were introduced to help keep other invasive species under control, so its good to release them. Here are the Bag/Possession limits, if you want to be legal:

Bag limit is 2 (two) Butterfly peacock bass, only one of which may be 17 inches or longer in total length.

Possession limit is two days' bag limit. It is illegal to transport or possess more than two days' bag limit of fish per licensed angler without a commercial license. Exceptions are fish legally acquired from aqua-
culturists (fish farmers) for use in aquaria for brood stock, pond stocking or properly marked for the market.

just be sure to give them plenty of room, plenty of filtration, and a varied diet.

sweet thanks for the info ! :D

now you mentioned Exceptions are fish legally acquired from aqua-
culturists (fish farmers) for use in aquaria for brood stock, pond stocking or properly marked for the market. do know where peacocks can be purchased ?

From many florida members on here as well as probably any lfs near you.

most pet stores sell them as babies. if they don't have them in stock, they can get them.

it would be more fun to grow them out from a baby, in my opinion.

wild caught fish may have trouble adjusting to an aquarium. they are more likely to jump, and less likely to accept pellet food, also.

Oh, and Welcome to ]V[FK!
