Catfish for 120g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
haha well I don`t really intend to get bored of them, I`ve kept central american cichlids for about 13 years and its time to expand my fishkeeping knowledge on an underapreciated group of fishes. I had a really nice Achara catfish about 15" in my 225 but I had to shut that down when I moved as it wouldn`t fit in my new house lol. someone got a really nice deal on a 3ft wide tank.

Yeah A group of limas would make a very nice addition but I`ve only ever seen one specimen for sale at a time, never a tank full and they are always at least 8". I would love to start with some juvies.
For now I have my nice synos and tomorrow I`ll be heading to a bigger store to look for some more medium sized cats, hopefully pick up some pictus or another kind of syno.

I wasn`t lying when I said I picked a really fat syno heres some proof

Get him a freaking treadmill haha

That may be an illness. I'd keep a close watch, especially on its appetite. I personally would not buy a fish that looks like it could be severely bloated.

I'd suggest including i-net vendors into your scope. Email John Kreatsouas aka Snookn21 - I used to get limas from him by a dozen for ~$10-$15 before shipping. Right now the season is approaching when they become available.

Thanks for the heads up I'm not sure how accessible Canada is to some of the suppliers that people use on MFK. if I was in the states I would pay quite a bit less especialyl with the current conversion rate. There is also an import tax but I don't think that includes fish.

Big fat syno is doing great, super active and appetite is very strong. looks to be in very good condition, if they were larger I might think maybe she had eggs but I'm sure shes just the dominant one at the store and ate all the food.

Couldn't find any pictus cats today (whats up with that) so I got 3 striped raphael about 2", another synodontus, they couldn't find the sheet with the latin name from the supplier because the store was meant to be shut 10 minutes ago so I'll just post for an ID online. Also I have the synos, and raphaels in a 25G quarantine right now to feed them up (except fatty). I picked up 5 blind cave tetras to give them a sign its safe to come out, but I have never seen cave tetras this small, they are about 1.5cm and they still have eyes!

Cute stuff!

I've no idea off the top of my head what your new syno is. Post it on PlanetCatfish, if you will. It does not look common to me. It does not look hybrid either but I'm no syno expert.
