Would juruense outgrow my tank ? I don't want to end up parting with whatever fish I choose

I've kept both Jaguars/Liosomodoras Oncinus and Bumblebee Cats/Pseudopimelodus Bufonius so I can tell you about both. Both will definitely be big time hiders, rarely seen in a set-up especially if the lighting isn't diffused. You'll find it frustrating if you want to see them often as there's very little can be done to lure them out other then feedings. Both are predatory to a degree with the Bumblebee being the more dedicated predator who won't be above taking fairly sizeable tankmates. Here after I imagine experiences will differ but I had to feed live to begin with the for the Jags and only the Jags adapted to a prepared food diet. I fed the Jags worms and from day one fed the Bumblebee pellet stuffed shrimp. The Jags eventually ate sinking pellets for me but the Bufonius never did, I had to hand feed him the shrimp as there was too much competition from other tankmates to just drop it in and I hated thawing then stuffing shrimp. It was that way until I sold them. I will say that as the Jags got bigger(8 inches) they became a little more outgoing but still hid the majority of the time. As for their hardiness I've found them no less or more so hardy then other cats.

By the way I merged your two threads since both asked the same question.

I have been pouring of the net and cant believe how many variation of the bumble be there are. i really like the bufonius. How was the coloration once they matured. How often did u feed the jag and bufonius. Would i be able to house them together along with an oscar and mabe a couple of sevs jd or gt..also would using blue or red lighting help with geting them out?

marbled bullhead.

If he can find one :) I looked for one for my 75 for SO long but couldn't find one. Probably the rarest of the bullheads, I'd do an irwini, elongatus, or yellow bullhead and probably change my mind another 80 times. Catfish are just amazing!

Guys I feel the same way will check out the bulkhead you've listed.have put way more effort into the stocking of the cat than any other fish...up till like 1 am last night looking at stuff...if I could get a gulper that would be my pick but he would probably end up swallowing everyone else. So far the jag and giant bb are in the lead I also like the vulture ( tank may not be big enough not sure) and the bolt

here is some info on all those you listed.

gulper: eat everything NO DOUBT (look up gulper catfish on Google and you will find one with a stomach bigger than the rest of its body). So.......don't do it, IMO

jaguar: pretty good, like to be in small groups (not essential), low pH is appreciated

giant BB: thumbs up for that one.

vulture: WAY to big, for the pims with long barbels like those you need to account for their maxillery barbel tip to barbel tip span as max length. I'd say it needs at least 8 x 3 for adult.

bolt (aguarunichthys I assume): rare to find but if you can get one then I'd go for it! Normally in the very rare cases LFSs get them they are near full grown as it is difficult to import juvies.

"have put way more effort into the stocking of the cat than any other fish" sounds like me :)

there is one on aquabid right now. go to the oddball section.

watching some vids on the bullhead pretty cool fish. If I had the cash I would start a catfish tank....maybe down the road put the monsters in the basement !

sucks that I am limited with the tank size though.
