Catfish for 400 gal?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hemibargus nemurus
***Should work well. If these are farm raised albino, they won't exceed 12-14 inches and are rather mellow IME:
How about farm raised, non albino ones?

Sorubim lima
***Would work well only when lima are well over 1ft. Smaller lima are timid and rather fragile while your large cichlids are boisterous.

Black lancer
***My comments would be similar to lima.

Ompok bimaculatus
***My comments would be similar to lima:
Great! My pond has a 4x4x4in pipe that leads to my sump. If a fish swims up the pipe, there is no way to retrive it. My 33 gallon is on top of the sump's cover.

Just found out all catfish have venom. I would like to know where the three spines are located?

Venom must be injected in blood stream, my naive understanding is. Poison must be ingested. I am unsure how to classify a toxin that is just "spread" in a puncture wound, or an abrasion.

The leading pectoral rays of the two pectoral fins and of the dorsal fin.

***We never see them i the hobby but I'd not expect much difference. We get the farm culls, the underperformers with poorer genes.

***You could place a screen on the opening.

It stops only if something gets stuck on the screen and blocks the flow? Rigging a large enough screen, not of flat shape but 3D, or drilling a bunch of holes in the pipe might be considered.
